2021 William Hill World Championship – Day 11
American hopes at the William Hill World Championship were ended as Danny Baggish exited the event despite an incredible display of determination and composure. Baggish was edged out by three-time World Champ Glen Durrant.
After two sets, there was little sign of the drama to unfold, with the Englishman seemingly in control, thanks in part to his opponent’s struggles on doubles. Danny lost the first set in straight legs (missing doubles in two of those), and while he picked it up the second – and recorded a sweet 12-darter – he didn’t seem to have any answer to Glen’s consistency. A set later, it was 3-0.
The first four legs of the fourth went with the throw, which meant “Duzza” had the advantage in the fifth leg, but a well-timed 15-darter made it 3-1. Durrant broke serve in the first leg of Set 5, but legs of 16, 14, and 15, closed the gap to just one set.
Durrant hit a 180 in the first leg of the sixth, and took the leg. Both players hit 180’s in the second, and both missed outs, but Baggish found the required D12. Durrant regained the advantage after Baggish missed from 78, but it was soon 2-2. Sadly, a superb 134 to set up tops to take it to a deciding set was the last shot Danny was to take in the championship…
