Cazoo World Cup of Darts – Day 2
Several of the fancied teams reached Round 2 tonight, including the England pair of James Wade and Dave Chisnall after a tough opener against Brazil. They were joined by Northern Ireland (who just edged out Hong Kong) and Belgium, but former finalists the Republic of Ireland were dumped out oy the tournament at the first hurdle by an impressive display from Portugal.
The USA were left as the sole North American representatives as Canadians Jeff Smith and Matt Campbell exited at the hands of Germany.
The second round takes place tomorrow (Saturday), with a change in format. Instead of straight doubles play, it switches to two Best-of-Seven singles, with a Best-of-Seven doubles as a tie-breaker.
Danny Lauby Jr. and Chuck Puleo will be flying the Stars and Stripes against Australia, third match on tomorrow afternoon, while Paul Lim’s Singapore take on the Netherlands in the evening session.
