2024 World Open

Today saw the Gold category World Open, with separate events for men, women, boys, and girls. Despite providing a huge contingent of entries, it was largely a quiet day for the Americans.

None of the women or boys were able to reach the Top 32, and Ankheluun Munkhbayasgalan was the only girl to reach the Top 32. Unfortunately, that was where Ankheluun was to run into World #1 – and eventual champion – Paige Pauling.

On to the men, and Dustin Holt, Aaron Rench, and Joey Lynaugh all fell at Top 64. That left Alex Spellman and Elliot Milk at Top 32. Spellman, put up a great fight before going down to Kristiaan de Boer in a tense battle. The ‘Milkman” faced Connor Scutt, who was responsible for that superb defeat of Jason Brandon in the Masters. Well, he wasn’t able to reproduce that form, and the man from South Dakota bounced back from a 3-1 deficit to grab the win.

At Top 16, Milk took on the aforementioned Kristiaan de Boer. Determined not to let the Dutchman complete a double over the Americans, Ellio took control early on, and won in straight legs.

In the quarter-final, Milk was up against Krzysztof Kciuk. He jumped into an early 3-1 before the Pole hit back to make it all square. It was close until Kcuik decided to finish 284 in 6 darts (140, 144), and that was that.

Tomorrow brings the Lakeside World Championship Qualifiers for the youths, followed by the conclusion of the World Masters. Live scores are available at DartConnect here and here.
