Ladbrokes UK Open – Finals
Danny Lauby’s quest to become the first American UK Open champion was ended early on Saturday. England’s Ryan Joyce soon took control of the match, and finished up on the right end of a 10-3 scoreline. Still, Danny can take some positives from the weekend, certainly with the manner of his victory over Brendan Dolan.
Highlights from the first round of yesterday’s action included defeats for Michael van Gerwen, Dave Chisnall, and Chris Dobey. At the close of play, we were left with an intriguing quarter-final lineup.
This morning, Luke Littler disposed of Gian van Veen 10-4, and this was followed by wins for Josh Rock, Jonny Clayton, and a resurgent James Wade. One round later, we were left with a Luke Littler (surprise, surprise) and James Wade final.
In the Best-of-21 title fight, Littler had his opponent on the ropes from the start, and it took until the tenth leg for Wade to reach the winning double. He did manage a second leg, but it was always going to be too much to rebound from such a devastating start. Littler rounded it off 11-2, with his third ton-plus average of the day. And nine 180s!
