Today’s action in Hull centers on the Lakeside World Championship Playoffs.  The playoffs will provide four men, two women, and two youth finalists.

The first event held today was the Youth Playoff, and it was a disappointing day for the two young American contenders.  Dan Robbins went down 3-1 in his first-round clash England’s Tyler Radlett, while Carl Di Cicco suffered a similar scoreline against Owen Maiden, also from England.  The two players advancing to the final were Joshua Richardson (England) and Jordan Boyce (Ireland).

In the women’s event, Lisa Ayers was due to start at 10.00am, but advanced on a forfeit.  Her first match was against the very experienced Jan Robbins (Wales), and an impressive 3-1 win set up a meeting with the highly-rated Laura Tye.  Another great performance brought brought the Tennessean victory in a five-leg thriller.  Dee Bateman was the next opponent, and despite a fantastic effort, Lisa was eliminated in four legs.

Like her compatriot Ayers, South Carolina’s Sandy Hudson started the day with a bye.  This was followed by a 3-2 triumph over Canada’s Joanne Luke.  Next came a tussle with two-time WDF Europe Cup Singles Champion, Sue Edwards.  Unfortunately, four legs later, Sandy was out of the playoffs.

If there is any consolation for Lisa, it is the fact that Dee Bateman continued her run, and qualified for Lakeside alongside New Zealander Tin Osborne.
