Tomorrow (Saturday) sees the start of the Lakeside World Championship. This time, there are four Americans in action – with all of them making their tournament debut!

Jules Van Dongen, Leonard Gates, and Kevin Luke take to the men’s stage, and the last time we had three men at Lakeside was in 1994 when Paul Lim, Jim Damore, and Tony Payne qualified. Paula Murphy becomes the first American women to appear since Stacy Bromberg back in 2002.

Murphy is the first to play, at 7.40pm on Sunday evening, when she faces Hungary’s Veronika Ihász. At 9.00pm that same night, Luke (the first ever former ADO National Youth Champion to qualify for Lakeside) takes on Steve Hine (England). Van Dongen starts his quest for glory at 9.00pm on Tuesday (opponent not decided yet), and Gates is the last to appear at 3.00pm on Wednesday when he meets the winner of the Luke/Hine clash.

Belgian Brian Raman is the #1 seed for the men, ahead of France’s Thibault Tricole. Van Dongen is the eleventh seed, with Gates at #15. Deta Hedman heads the women’s seeds, with Australian Corrine Hammond #2.
