2022 Lakeside World Championship – Day Two Review

With two Americans taking to the Lakeside stage today, hopes were high. Sadly, it wasn’t to be…

Florida’s Paula Murphy faced Hungarian, Veronika Ihasz. Even though she managed to giver herself several shots at the winning double, nerves seemed to get the better of Paula. Against an impressive display by here opponent, Paula went down in straight sets.

Two matches later, it was Kevin Luke’s turn. He was up against the experienced Steve Hine. Kevin started off well, and captured the first leg of the match. The next three also went with the darts, so Luke had the advantage in the decider. Unfortunately, the Englishman stuck in a well-timed fifteen-darter to take the set.

The first four legs of the second set all went with the throw, with the American missing two at tops (from 60) to break Hine. So, Hine had the throw in the fifth here, and wrapped up a 2-0 victory. That miss on 60 really hurt…

So far, Scotland’s Jim McEwan has the highest average (101.32) for the men, while Rhian O’Sullivan has the highest women’s figure with 85.89.

We have to wait until Tuesday to see Missouri’s Jules Van Dongen in action.
