Texan Leonard “Soulger” Gates finished a brilliant weekend of darts by lifting the 2023 JenningsBet Champion of Champions! The event, the latest stop on the World Seniors Tour, was held at the Lancashire seaside resort of Blackpool.

“Soulger” took on England’s Richie Howson, runner-up in the 2023 Seniors World Championship, and stormed into a 6-1 lead. A nice 11-darter (140, 180, 100, 81) made it 10-5 to the American. Howson mounted a late challenge, closing the deficit to 12-10, but it was too late. Gates kicked off the 25th leg with a 180, and he took the championship 13-10;

In the first round, Gates had the dubious “honor” of facing 16-time World Champ, Phil Taylor, but emerged a fine 10-8 winner, and followed up taking the semi 13-11 from 3-time World Champ, Martin Adams. All close matches, but the results all went the right way!
