2023 WDF World Masters Cancelled

Some of you will have seen that the WDF World Masters has been cancelled this year. You will also have some a number of negative comments. What you have to realize is that the World Masters was never actually scheduled for 2023.

Last December, when the WDF rescheduled the Lakeside World Championship for the end of the year, that always made the World Masters unlikely, simply due to the scheduling. 2023 being a WDF World Cup year, there was always the possibility of a logjam of major events at the end of the year.

Apparently, there was the possibility that it could happen, but nothing more than a possibility, and we all know that last-minute scheduling rarely works. It was always going to be a struggle to fit it in.

This does not affect this week’s ADO World Masters Nationals in Charlotte IN ANY WAY. Players will still qualify for the World Masters, it will just be the 2024 World Masters. This means that the 2024 World Masters will feature players who qualified in 2023 AND 2024, which is like last year’s event, which featured qualifiers from 2019 (pre-pandemic).
